Creating defensible space around your home or structure is essential for protecting it from the threat of wildfires. By establishing at least 5 feet of gravel or another type of hardscaping around your property, you can significantly reduce the risk of fire spreading to your home. It's important to keep this buffer clear of any flammable materials, such as dry leaves, wood, or mulch, to create a safer zone. At Blooming Landscape & Design, we specialize in installing these fire-resistant buffers, helping to safeguard your property and provide peace of mind during wildfire season.
Biological fire mitigation (BFM) takes a different and more holistic approach to fire mitigation. Focusing on soil health and water holding capacity, BFM’s aim is to create proactive and long-term resilience to your landscape. By employing techniques such as the application of compost tea (think Kombucha for the soil), organic compost, biochar and mycelium (aka mushrooms), we can restore natural water and carbon cycles. A landscape with poor soil health that has been grazed inappropriately or has been disturbed is more prone to fire than a healthy landscape with good water holding capacity. BFM focuses on long term solutions that build on themselves and create resilience and fire hardiness over time. This coupled with existing extraction methods can be helpful in mitigating fire risk.

Clearing away potentially flammable materials around the perimeter of your home or structure is a crucial step in fire prevention. Overhanging tree limbs, dead or fallen branches, pine needles, and other debris can easily catch fire and quickly spread to your property. By removing these hazards, you create a safer buffer zone that reduces the risk of a wildfire reaching your home. At Blooming Landscape & Design, we offer professional services to help clear your property of these dangerous materials, ensuring better protection for your home and peace of mind during fire season.
